Born in Bourbon County, Ky he first migrated to Schuyler County, MO. From there
he started to California with teams of Oxen following the Oregon Trail to the
Junction and by mistake took the northern route and landed in Oregon
Territory.The Ruddell House, erected in 1852, was one of the largest and best
structures in the Puget Sound Country. This is in Thurston County near the
Capitol, in Olympia where he served a term in the legislature.
