On leaving Aurora I went to "San Francisco and arranged to go Hawthorne Nevada as agent for the Wells-Fargo Exopress Company and i landed there on the first train intoi the place, April 14th 1881. I took thestage agency and shortly afterward opened a general store. The Carson and Colorado Railroad [Narrow gauge] was building south, (ultimatelyh to Owen's Lake) and opening up a new country. ...."
